9 Strong Suggestions (for Atheists)

Ok, so I was thinking that Atheists should have some Strong Suggestions (as opposed to Commandments) to being a decent human being.  I find the Commandments to be prehistoric and not relevant.  Do we need to remind people..."Oh hey buddy, put that knife down, you forgot that don't kill rule!"?

I am also writing this to show religious people can see that we as a society don't need Biblical archaic rules to be a decent human beings.  We can have our own code of coduct to show them that we are not all devil worshipers.  Just because you are godless doesn't mean you are an asshole.  Some assholes have a god(s), others don't.

1.  Respect and take care of yourself.  You are only on this earth for a finite amount and then you are 6' under.  Make the most of it.

2.  Respect others.  This should be self explanatory.  In layman's terms, Don't be a dick.

3.  Don't steal.  See No. 2.

4.  Don't screw your friend's spouses.  There are lots of "fishes" out there.  See No. 2.

5.  Don't lie.  And by this, don't mislead people intentionally.  FYI, not saying anything is not lying.

6.  Respect other religions.  What they do is sacred and don't intentionally disrespect what they hold sacred.  You may not buy into it and that is alright.  See No. 2.  This is imperative when you are travelling.

7.  Don't try to convert people!  People are religious for a reason!  As much as you think Jesus has in common with the boogey man, many religious people can't think rationally with this.  You will find that people will be threatened by your lack of religion so you need to be a couple of steps ahead on that.  If you show that you are a nice person, they will not think you worship the devil.  Note not converting people is the complete opposite of what religious people do....

8. Don't be extremist.  No one likes to have one religion dominate a region more than another.  That's is what makes this country great.  We are cool with different kinds of religions and the lack thereof and we don't have those archaic blasphemy laws punishable by death!

9.  Lastly have a hobby.  This is a major one because if you have a damn hobby you don't do the above things.

1st Blog!

Whats up everyone??  In the past couple of years, I have slowly embraced my lack of religion.  Lately I have been wanting to be proud of my freedom and eager to celebrate it.  My biggest problem is that I don't know how.  It's like those people that celebrate being cancer free (strong analogy) but don't do anything in common to celebrate it.  So I figured I would write a blog about the different perspectives and the Atheist take on things.

So here we go!  (Budweiser don't sue me)
